Move in and Roommates My first impressions of High Biew were definitely not the best as my first night, just a few hours after moving in, the electricity to my room was completely shut off. It was only to my bedroom, not my bathroom nor my roommates spaces. I couldn’t turn on another nor have my freshly bought groceries in my mini fridge be safe. I do appreciate the after hours maintenance worker helping me, after several calls, through the process of manually turning my power back on, but this was quite a terrible experience and impression. My second complaint is really about the roommate matching process. I do take responsibility as i did apply to the apartment relatively late, maybe beginning of august, yet the leasing front desk worker stated that the matching process was not nearly fully done and there was numerous incoming people that needed to be matched. The roommate matching survey where you tell your preferences, living conditions, and age was absolutely useless, to the point it was even harmful.. the roommates i was assigned to were complete OPPOSITES of everything i filled out on the survey. They are night owls, maintain cleanliness not frequently at all, are PHD students, and completely out of my age range by almost a decade?? Now I keep having constant issues with them regarding their schedule and dirtiness, to the point that i don’t feel comfortable at all leaving my room due to bugs, noise, and overall not feeling comfortable around them. This experience really contributes to a poor experience housing as just a college 18 year old freshman.
Property Manager Responded: Hi, welcome to High View, and thank you for taking the time to share this. I'm so sorry your first few days here were this rocky; that is not the welcome we want any resident to have. Losing power in your room on your very first night, with nowhere to safely keep your groceries, sounds genuinely stressful, especially after just moving in. I'm really glad our after-hours maintenance team was able to walk you through getting it back on. I'm following up with our maintenance team on this specific issue so we can catch it faster if it comes up again. I also want to speak honestly about the roommate matching process, because I know how much it affects your day-to-day comfort. We do our best to match residents based on the preferences and information provided in each person's application, things like lifestyle habits and living preferences. That said, matching gets more limited the later in the leasing cycle someone applies, simply because there are fewer people still being placed and fewer combinations to choose from. It sounds like that timing may have played a role here, and I'm sorry the outcome hasn't felt like a good fit. I'd really like to talk with you directly about what's going on with your current roommates, the noise, cleanliness, and comfort concerns you mentioned are worth working through together, and I want to understand your options. Please stop by the leasing office so we can talk it through. Thank you again for your patience, and for giving us the chance to make this right.
